Fill your lunchtimes with a soundscape to soothe your soul this summer with a series of recitals held at St Peter’s Church in Carmarthen.
Throughout August, the historic church will provide an oasis of calm and joyous escapism as talented musicians drawn from the world of classical and church music each perform a mini concert between 1 and 2pm.
Performers include award-winning harpist and clarsach player Elinor Evans who draws on her diverse Celtic roots to create a distinctive style featuring her own compositions alongside sensitive arrangements and traditional pieces.
Celebtrated organist, pianist and conductor, Richard Stephens, is an established performer in the Welsh church music circles and music-lovers will not want to miss his organ performance when he opens the series on August 2. Richard has travelled all over the world conducting massed choirs and has played at St Paul’s Cathedral, Westminster Abbey, and also at Oostend and Brugges.
Also in the line up is Stephen Honeyman whose musical journey has taken him on a whole world of opportunities. Stephen has played the organ in the Cathedrals of Bruges and Bayeux; churches in Mittenwald and Zweiesel; Oberammergau and Unterammergau as well as Ettal Abbey in Bavaria.
The August series will culminate with a performance from the esteemed organist Meirion Wynn Jones, who is renowned as a first class composer, accompanist and teacher. Meirion was for many years a staff accompanist at the International Eisteddfod in Llangollen and at the National Eisteddfod of Wales. His choral and vocal works have been recorded and broadcast on BBC radio and S4C.
The St. Peter’s Lunchtime Recital programme is organised by Mary Evans who is the Director of Music at St Peter’s Church, and who will be giving the fourth recital in the series. Mary has an ALCM for piano performance and is CRCO (a colleague of the Royal College of Organists). Mary has accompanied choirs and soloists across the UK and is credited for her recital on the triple harp. Mary, a pupil of renowned organ tutor Gerdi Troskie, is Convenor of the Wales branch of the Clarsach Society and a much-respected Carmarthen solicitor who set up the firm Mary Evans & Co.
All performances are at 1pm. Tickets are £5 per recital or £20 for all five. Five people can also attend a recital for the price of four. There will be light refreshments available after each recital as well as a raffle draw.
